To an insecure, bitchy little queen in my year.

I seem to scare you. It seems to me, that the fact that I have already prepared a list of potential pieces for our third year revue next year - the biggest task we will have at this college - and gone into a little detail about their specifics, worries you as your preparation thus far seems to consist of 'I want to do a Contemporary piece'. Is that not why, when I was describing my idea for a techie ballet to the others in the room, you butted in feigning the voice of reason, with
'The thing is, you've got to remember that it's not just about you. It needs to be actually good... we're trying to show off to agents and professionals, and what are they going to think about boots and all that? You've got to consider what people will actually want to see. I mean, I could choreograph a piece that was just people sitting on the floor rocking, but no-one would like it. You know. Ruby*, what ideas did you have?'
The sugar you drip is poisonous. But where you were going for hemlock, you only achieve stinging nettles. You see, what I think professionals seeing a ballet done en pointe in steel toe-capped boots would think would be at worst 'that doesn't look very safe', more likely 'how inventive' and probably, hopefully 'that's bloody funny'. Your Contemporary choreography... well, sitting on the floor rocking from side to side wouldn't be that many steps down, would it?
I'm sure the idea was to make me doubt myself, make me worry about the validity of my ideas and discredit my own creativity. But you're not a very good bully. I know it's a good idea, and will go down well - so all you have achieved is to make me realise, once again, that you are an insecure, bitchy little cunt. You might get away with that if you had more talent than my toenail clippings.

Think of Meryl Streep.

LOL!!! STINGING NETTLES! Perfect!

What a James Blunt. Really. My return on that is to turn so patronising... "Really? And do YOU use it?" "Well, I'm sure you'll get there in the end, you're SO clever." Remain, as it sounds like you are, in charge of the situation and he will be powerless... but make sure you are accomodating everyone (else) in your ideas.

"oh yeah, he's doing a piece for the revue. No, as a choreographer. Oh don't, that's what I said..."

What, 'choreographer'?

Good to hear from you, man. The young person in question is now being just as nice as he possibly can... I don't think I reacted the way he wanted.

Not too bad, went to Move It on Saturday to check out the competition(and ended up manning the Stella Mann stall because despite the fact that everyone puts their name down to be a helper, there just weren't enough people selected to go to keep it running)and I'm glad I'm not a dancer. Everyone else is very, very good, and if I prided myself on dancing they'd make me feel very insecure indeed.
One of our show pieces crashed and burned a bit, everyone trooped on stage in their gold jackets and top hats, lined up backs to the audience and waited for the music to start. And waited. And waited. There was a bit of feedback, then they all trooped off again - and the roar from the crowd was even bigger than when Urdang went on, and they brought the whole college to cheerlead. Some of their boys came up to us later to point and laugh. It went ok once the teacher in charge tore back up to us, wrenched the cupboard open to get the spare CD and gave herself an asthma attack in the process, though.
Can't really think of what else is going on right now... I'm forgetting how to tech, which isn't good, seeing as I'm pretty much by default head technician when we do the getin for The Boyfriend(of which we have a stagger through on Friday, and my year's numbers haven't had a rehearsal in over a month) since the last one graduated.
And yes, your trials and tribulations do explain your not being glued to the computer... seems rather a lot for one family.
